Dry Needling
Our Physiotherapist offers dry needling as one of his treatments to treat muscle tissue, and its goal is to reduce pain, inactivate trigger points and restore function. It rarely is a standalone procedure. Rather, it often is part of a broader physical therapy approach incorporating other traditional physical therapy interventions into treatment. Book an appointment or call to enquire with our Physiotherapist for more information.
Spirometry
We have a designated nurse in clinic on Tuesday's to Thursday's that does Spirometry. We measure how effectively your lungs are working. It is able to show how much air lungs are able to hold (their volume) and how much air can be breathed in and out (inhaled and exhaled). This tool is used to assess damage caused by conditions like COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease & includes bronchitis and emphysema), pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis and asthma. If you would like more information about Spirometry with us, give us a call and we can get a nurse to see you or give you a call back to explain.
COPD Thursday Winter Wellness Checks
We are offering funded COPD and whanau wellness reviews as well as some immunisations (pneumococcal, boostrix) for Maori & Pacific and/or CSC Holder patients with diagnosed COPD. These reviews are an hour long and are conducted by a practise nurse. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common lung disease that restricts breathing and problems with air flow. For more information about these checks, give us a call and we can get the appropriate clinician to give you more information to see whether or not it is the best treatment for you.
Wednesday Diabetes Clinic
Te Whareora o Tikipunga runs a diabetes clinic once a week on a Wednesday morning from 9:15am-12:30pm. Any patient with diabetes can book in with any issues - have a full diabetes check done, blood tests updated, foot checks, update recordings and discuss blood results and medications. We can use this time to titrate up any patients on insulin that require more input and support to manage there diabetes effectively. Healthy life style is important and presenting with a food diary can be helpful. We have doctors on hand if any other details are needed and can also email the diabetes clinic for advice if this is required. We also have the resources to trial the libre sensor if the patient is in insulin ( this is a senor that is placed on your upper arm rather than finger pricking). If this time does not suit you we can accomodate you at any time it does - please discuss this with our Receptionist. These visits are fully funded with no charge to the patient.
Taurite Tū
Taurite Tū is a strength & balance exercise programme that is encouraged for our Maori and Pacific patients aged 50+ as well as their whanau and tautoko systems. This programme allows our kaumatua & kuia to participate in strength and balance exercises and activities to help build more confidence and resilience in themselves. It is also a space for them and their whanau to come and connect with each other over fun activities and kai! It is run through the school term and breaks during school holidays. Based at Te Ora Hou in Tikipunga 104 Corks Road every Friday from 12:00-2:00pm. Come along to register yourself or your whanau.
